I read in the Independent that the traditional soup run may be banned in some London boroughs due to the fact that when homeless people queue up to get a serving of hot food it constitutes a ‘public order issue’.
Now for a start just where the hell do these people get off? if the ban is approved then it means anyone distributing free food to the homeless in the affected areas will be breaking the law and I want to ask at what point did helping your fellow human being constitute an illegal offence?
Westminister City Councils cabiner member for housing, the Conservative councillor (theres a goddamn surprise) Angela Harvey claimed the distribution of food was causing a ‘nuisance’ and was not helping in the long run, because having people on the streets isn’t a nuisance in the first place, I mean isn’t it just a shame when you’re out at the theater and you see some body in a sleeping bag huddled up in the shop doorway opposite, oh yes its just such a goddamn nuisance isn’t it? and when you’ve got people out there giving them free food, yes free food they aren’t out there serving up sausage and chips and charging £5 a plate in order to make a profit, its just so inconvenient when you’ve got hordes of these badly dressed street dwellers all sat about eating off of paper plates and having a chat.
What a fucking nuisance that must be.
The sheer arrogance and hypocrisy of a council banning charity soup runs because it constitutes a public order issue when it is quite happy to let people drink themselves stupid at the pub and then roll through the streets vomiting and fighting is just about beyond belief, and the very idea that people out and about exercising their ability and intention to help those less fortunate than themselves being counterproductive raises the question of what is productive? shooting the homeless? putting them all in a pile and letting suburban mums run them down in their 4×4’s? I mean what the hell are we supposed to do?
People complain about the benefits system, hell I complain about the benefits system every now and then and I’m about as close to a goddamn Socialist regarding these matters as you can get without being lynched to death with rolled up wads of cash wielded by the students at college, the idea of state funded charity is thought to take the onus off of citizens to look after the poor in society and giving it all to the government which results in people not actually caring any more because they feel the government has it all in hand and that their taxes go toward the problem in question its a primary problem with an all contolling state and yes it most certainly is the responsibility of the government to provide for the problem and do something about it but only because the government is meant to exist at the behest of the people nothing more, people care, therefore the government cares.
Getting round to the point, we all complain about the benefits system because human nature being as wonderful as it is has meant that a good system has been totally abused so lets get this straight people want to ban soup runs which are funded by voluntary donations in order to make the homeless, in the words of the caring sharing Angela ‘NIMFBY’ Harvey ‘ “accept the range of services we offer to help them find work and a permanent home” well thats fair enough love but lets look at this way shall we they can’t get themselves a minimum wage job and pay over the rates to get lodgings if they’ve starved to death on the streets.
More importantly if the homeless are not able to receive free food then what do you think will happen as regarding the crime statistics, I’d like to see someone who was starving on the street start banging on about how they won’t steal any food because they respect other people’s rights to own more food than they can bloody eat in a week and lets face it a lot of these people are going to get caught in their criminal escapades and a few will go to prison hence where they will most likely learn how to be real criminals.
But its a goddamn nuisance isn’t it Angela.
Perhaps its worth the while to look at the fact that in the shining metropolis of London in which a garage which looks as though it would be used in a drugs scene in the bill can go for £1 million has a homeless population of nearly 9000 people and the housing market is in such a shambolic state of price driven hysteria that people who work their asses off still cannot afford to buy in or even rent a room.
I’m hoping very much that this bill gets kicked out like an emo at a rock concert because if it is passed it is a sad, sad indictment of just how out of touch people are becoming.
Whats next I mean maybe we could ban Cancer Research charities because their shops sometimes have bags of clothes on the front step in the morning and commuters can trip over them, plus seeing the word cancer on the high street is such a bummer it can really bring you down.
Plus the sight of people helping others its just such a…nuisance.
Theres a thought huh?

I too read this article and was sickened by such a callous idea even being considered. To ban delivery of food to the homeless, the only lifeline they have, is so cold and selfish. Has this person no empathy, or has she completely lost all her humanistic attributes? Makes me so mad.
