I was inspired by the old series on the BBC starring Vincent Price to try something a little different this term, I’ll be reading horror stories at Balliol to whoever’s interested, one a week on Thursdays at 8.30pm in my room. I’ve chosen some of the less well known short stories on offer because there is some excellent literature out there that just doesn’t get noticed so the first story will be ‘The Specialty of the House’ by Stanley Ellin, more of a mystery story than a horror yarn but an excellent, well written piece just right for the early evening. I’ll be reading selections from Stephen King (of course) Gerald Kersh (who?) Harry. E. Turner (really?) and that lesser known writer of horror fiction Scott. P. Carless (now we’re just getting silly!)
I’ll be adapting as much as possible and hopefully it should be a pleasant distraction from Plato and Greek legal prose.
