Placid Blue Solitude was the band that I was in before going solo, I thought that I should do a page on it because it’s amusing if nothing else to go over the sheer incompetent nothingness of a band that existed in many states for over four years without ever producing anything that really sounded like music.
It was formed back in 2001 in the middle of a Science lesson and became an excuse to get drunk, I remember being the only member of the band that actually played an instrument (and there were 5 of us!) it’s original members consisted of Alan Baker, Jason Dyer, Jon Buck, Matt Williams and of course myself.
By the end of college there were two people left in the band, being me and Matt and for a good while after nothing happened other than the occasional drunken busking session on the mean streets of Liss.
It was with the inclusion of Chris Bambling that we began to produce anything worthy of being called music and between the years of 2004 and 2006 we proceeded to produce two albums of very badly recorded music. the two albums in question were ‘The Martas Plat sessions’ recorded in Liss and ’songs in G’ which we recorded in Leeds, we also produced a few EP’s which were not named.
Chris and me were pulling in two polar directions, given our incredible musical differences it is amazing that we stayed in partnership for as long as we did. However the strain began to show when we attempted to introduce Toby Jackson on drums.
After a month of tension and unspoken grievences the bad disintegrated, leaving me and Chris on bad terms for a short while. Placid Blue Solitude ceased to exist and after a short stint with Toby Jackson, Will Jackson and Matt Williams, that too fell apart and I decided to start things again with me in charge.
In all it’s a sad story of hope and disappointment but so much in life is about learning the hard way, Placid Blue Solitude will always be known as ‘the band that wasn’t really a band’
I miss some aspects of it, but I’m glad that it’s over at the same time as I felt unable to create what I wanted whilst I was playing in it.
But I remember that Science Lesson, and I remember who else was there, and I remember why and I remember who for.
So I am very much still going.
Those were the days, kicking it back in French.
Blatently defying education, joking of a non-existant band!
…and somehow getting away with it.
I miss school, all the things I should have done(like burnt it down)
Odd really as some years later, somebody else tried this with moderate sucess. Infact I Believe it was the old MFL block that got redecorated in a pretty shade of carbon!
